It is high time to end the double standards regarding crime and punishment. White collar executives—enslaved to stockholders and quarterly reports—weigh moral and ethical decisions based on the cost of getting caught versus profits gained, bonuses awarded, and job security ensured. The direct correlation between lobbying dollars spent and the slap on the wrist given to those that accept it is a corruption factor so blatant, it strikes the American people like a blow to the face.
We need to insist on immediate termination of all executives involved in any coverups that were premeditated, and effecting the health and well-being of the American people. Every dollar made through such premeditated acts needs to be forfeited; the individuals, companies, and corporations responsible should be fined; and any government agency or political figure who has not done their job, placidly supporting or allowing it, also needs to forfeit any and all rewards, pay fines, and lose their positions.
When stricter policies are in place, we pave a path for authentic accountability—accountability that doesn't exempt corporate poachers and government parasites that feed off the pain and suffering of the American people.
